In short: Tropix Tech buys and takes over small IT support businesses and client lists across North and Central Queensland, from Bamaga and the Torres Strait down to Cairns, Townsville, Hervey Bay. If you are an IT technician or small MSP owner thinking about retiring, slowing down or moving on, we offer a confidential conversation, a fair process and a local team to look after your clients. You can sell outright, step back gradually, merge, or simply hand us your overflow and after-hours work.

Built a loyal client base? Let’s make sure it’s looked after.

You have spent years building trust with your clients. They call you by name, you know their networks inside out, and they rely on you. When it is time to retire, slow down or try something new, the biggest worry is usually not the price. It is who will look after those people once you step away.

That is where we come in. Tropix Tech is a managed IT services provider based in Cairns, supporting not-for-profit, NDIS, medical and small business clients across Queensland. We look after more than 230 devices with 24/7 monitoring, and our clients have either a local technician nearby or regular scheduled on-site visits. Our motto is simple: remote when it’s quick, on site when it matters.

Four ways we can work together

Not everyone is ready to sell outright, and that is fine. Pick the option that suits where you are.

OptionWhat it meansSuits you if
Full saleWe take over your client list and support agreements, and you step away after a planned handover. You are ready to retire or move on.
Gradual exitYou stay involved for an agreed period while your clients get to know us.You want to ease out over months, not overnight.

What happens to your clients

  • A personal introduction. We meet your clients with you wherever possible, so the change feels like a handshake, not a cold call.
  • No sudden changes. We keep what works. Systems, providers and arrangements stay in place until there is a good reason to change them, and the client agrees.
  • Local support continues. Your clients keep a local contact and on-site visits when they need them.
  • Their documentation is protected. Passwords, network notes and records are transferred securely and handled confidentially.

Areas we cover: Bamaga to Hervey Bay

We are interested in IT support businesses, sole-trader technicians and small MSPs right across North and Central Queensland, including remote and regional areas that bigger providers often overlook.

Cape York and the Torres Strait

Bamaga, Thursday Island, Weipa, Cooktown and surrounding communities. Remote clients are hard to service, and we understand that. We plan regular visits and handle as much as possible remotely.

Cairns, Port Douglas and the Tablelands

Cairns, Port Douglas, Kuranda, Atherton, Mareeba and the wider Tablelands. This is our home base, so handovers here can happen quickly and face to face.

The Cassowary Coast

Innisfail, Tully, Mission Beach and nearby towns.

Townsville and surrounds

Townsville, Ingham, Ayr and Charters Towers. See our page on managed IT services in Townsville.

The Whitsundays and Mackay

Bowen, Airlie Beach, Proserpine and Mackay. See IT support for mining services businesses in Mackay.

Central Queensland

Rockhampton, Yeppoon, Gladstone and Emerald.

Wide Bay

Bundaberg, Maryborough and Hervey Bay.

How the process works

  1. A confidential chat. A phone call or coffee. No paperwork, no commitment, and nothing shared without your permission.
  2. A look at the business. We talk through your client numbers, support agreements and how you work. You decide what to share and when.
  3. A clear proposal. We put forward an option and terms in plain English. You take it to your accountant and lawyer before agreeing to anything.
  4. A planned handover. We agree a timeline and introduce ourselves to your clients together.

Selling a business has legal and tax consequences, so we always recommend you get independent advice. The Australian Government’s business.gov.au also has general information on selling or closing a business.

Frequently asked questions

Is the conversation confidential?

Yes. We do not tell your clients, staff or anyone else that we have spoken unless you agree. If you want a confidentiality agreement before sharing details, we are happy to sign one.

How do you work out what my IT business is worth?

It mostly depends on your recurring revenue, how long your clients have stayed with you, how well their systems are documented and how much the business depends on you personally. We talk this through openly and put our offer in writing. You should always check it with your accountant.

I’m a sole trader with a small client list. Are you still interested?

Yes. Many of the best conversations start with a one-person business and a loyal group of clients. Size is not the deciding factor. Fit is.

I’m not ready to sell. Can you just help with overflow or after-hours work?

Yes. We can take overflow tickets, after-hours calls or remote site visits so you get some breathing room, without any change of ownership.

What happens to my clients after the handover?

They keep a local team, on-site visits when needed and the same systems they rely on. We introduce ourselves alongside you, and we do not make changes without good reason and the client’s agreement.

Do you cover remote areas like Bamaga, Thursday Island and Weipa?

Yes. We support clients across Cape York and the Torres Strait through remote support and scheduled visits, and we are interested in businesses that serve these communities.

How long does a handover usually take?

It depends on the number of clients and how involved you want to stay. A simple handover can take a few weeks. A gradual exit can run over several months.
